This week, world leaders and thousands of participants from all cross-sections of civil society will come together in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to discuss how we can reduce poverty, advance social equity and ensure environmental protection on an ever more crowded planet to get to the future we want.
Rio +20, or the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD), marks the 20th anniversary of the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED), in Rio, and the 10th anniversary of the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) in Johannesburg.
ArmchairAdvocates will be participating in the debate and discussion in the way that we know best: social media. How are individuals, nonprofits and businesses using social media to enhance the world’s sustainability agenda? This week we will be dedicating our posts to highlight the social media successes and challenges around agenda’s seven critical issues: decent jobs, energy, sustainable cities, food security and sustainable agriculture, water, oceans, and disaster readiness. So stay tuned!
We also encourage you to visit Rio Plus Social, an initiative hosted by the United Nations Foundation, to join the worldwide conversation around sustainability.
